Origin Story

The first version of Desert and Vine Botanical Supply was the result of a passion for recycling, thrifting... and propagating one too many house plants. What began as a pop-up booth, traveling to farmers markets, craft shows, and pet expos for three years, became a brick and mortar shop in East Nashville in 2022.

Today, Desert and Vine offers an ever-changing selection of plants, as well as pottery and supplies sourced from fellow small businesses and a line of products made in-house that includes macrame plant hangers, hand-mixed soil blends, and more.

Meet the Owner

Hi there, I'm Rachel. What began as a house plant hobby for me back in 2015 quickly turned into a career- I found a plant maintenance tech job on Craigslist and never looked back.

I'm so proud of the little oasis I've created at Desert and Vine, and my whole life revolves around it. I wear every hat in this business- shopkeeper, marketing, social media, plant caretaker, tech guy, finance manager, zookeeper, event coordinator, etc.

It is my absolute honor to be East Nashville's plant lady, and I love seeing the community we've built here grow.

The Animal Team

Desert and Vine is the permanent home of several animal friends. Most are rescues or donated by owners who were moving and couldn't take them along, but sometimes we receive animals (like Flora the brown anole) by accident in plant shipments. Never a dull day around here.

The animal team currently consists of Flora the brown anole, axolotls Pretzel and BB, and Livvy the leopard gecko. Livvy and Flora are great models for what enclosures with real plants/soil and an insect cleanup crew can look like, and anyone with a pet reptile or amphibian is welcome to come in for guidance on setting up an enclosure.

We also have a "Bug Menu" with an ever-growing selection of isopods and all sizes of dubia roaches.
